TIME magazine named both Google DeepMind's SynthID watermarking technology and Meta's Omnilingual Automatic Speech Recognition system among its Best Inventions of 2026. SynthID has watermarked over 180 billion images and videos and is designed to help people distinguish AI-generated content from other media. Meta Omnilingual ASR covers more than 1,600 languages, including 500 low-coverage languages that Meta says were never before served by any ASR system; most existing ASR systems focus on languages well-represented on the internet.
