OpenAI Models Coming to Google Cloud, Completing Three-Cloud Presence

The gist

OpenAI's models are now accessible across all three major US cloud platforms, broadening the procurement options for enterprise and regulated customers. The shift follows the end of Microsoft's exclusivity arrangement, which had previously limited where OpenAI could distribute its models.

OpenAI will offer GPT-6 Astra and Codex in Google Cloud's Model Garden within weeks, making its models available on all three major US cloud platforms. Customers can apply purchases against pre-committed Google Cloud spending, and regulated customers can run OpenAI models within Google Cloud's access controls for agentic workflows. The deal became possible after Microsoft's license to OpenAI's technology turned non-exclusive on April 27, 2026, at which point Microsoft also stopped receiving a revenue share on Azure resales. AWS was first to act on that opening, with Codex on Amazon Bedrock by June 2026.
