The full picture

OpenAI's current fundraising round has shrunk from $30 billion to roughly $20 billion, a 33% reduction in dollar size, while its valuation target fell only about 11%, from $1.4 trillion to $1.25 trillion, according to Bloomberg and the Financial Times. Investors pushed back on price in late October and then cut the dollars they were willing to commit. Even at $1.25 trillion, OpenAI would be valued roughly 47% above its March 2026 valuation of $852 billion. The round's pullback coincided with a 3.5% decline in the Nasdaq 100. CFO Sarah Friar told CNBC that OpenAI will continue investing in data center infrastructure regardless of election outcomes, citing strong customer demand, and confirmed the company is in fundraising discussions at a valuation roughly 50% higher than its March round. President Greg Brockman said OpenAI could be ready for an IPO in 2027, pointing to enterprise revenue that roughly doubled and now constitutes the majority of OpenAI's revenue.
