OpenAI published what it says is an AI-generated solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem, only the second such problem solved since the seven were established in 2000. The proof is 166 pages and accompanied by Lean theorem prover verification code, produced by an undisclosed model described as stronger than GPT-6 Astra that coordinated roughly 10,000 agents over about 88 hours. Researcher Sébastien Bubeck estimated the computational cost at several million dollars. Separately, OpenAI told the New York Times it made 'substantial progress' on another Millennium Prize Problem and was 'working out how to share the result,' with rumors pointing to the Hodge Conjecture and an unreleased model possibly called Aeon; OpenAI has confirmed neither.
