Anthropic lines up 14.8 GW of compute at up to $517B over a decade
The scale of Anthropic's infrastructure commitments is substantial. The circular financing structure, where suppliers invest in the customer buying their infrastructure, makes utilization and serving margins more meaningful metrics than fundraising totals or compute commitments alone.
The full picture
Anthropic has secured at least 14.8 GW of new compute since October, with The Information reporting the total potential cost at $517 billion over the next decade. A $35 billion deal with Lambda, an Nvidia-backed firm, is part of that buildout; Nvidia holds the lease on the Texas data center involved. Suppliers including Amazon, Microsoft, and Nvidia have partly financed Anthropic through investment deals tied to infrastructure commitments: Amazon announced $5 billion in new investment with up to $20 billion more and a compute commitment exceeding $100 billion; Microsoft and Nvidia committed up to $5 billion and $10 billion respectively, while Anthropic agreed to buy $30 billion of Azure capacity. Claude runs across AWS Trainium, Google TPUs, and Nvidia hardware, with up to 2 GW of AMD systems planned from 2027. Anthropic is also reportedly finalizing a $15 billion revolving credit facility ahead of an anticipated IPO.
