Anthropic reports $16.8B in Q3 revenue, up 46% from Q2, and says it was profitable on an adjusted basis and cash flow positive
Anthropic, NTT Data Near $6.3B, 500MW Osaka Data Center Deal
A 500-megawatt facility would rank among Japan's largest data centers and represents a significant infrastructure commitment by Anthropic in Asia. The financial disclosures show rapid revenue growth alongside a complex off-balance-sheet financing structure supporting large-scale compute expansion.
The full picture
Anthropic and NTT Data are in final talks to build a 500-megawatt data center in Osaka, Japan, that would be Anthropic's first dedicated facility in the country and could cost up to $6.3 billion in construction alone, with AI server hardware pushing the total to several trillion yen. The two companies are targeting a deal signing by end of NTT's fiscal year 2026, which closes in March 2027, with partial operations possible as early as 2028. Neither company has confirmed the talks publicly; Nikkei Asia's original report cited multiple unnamed sources, and both declined to comment when approached. The project would count toward NTT Data's plan to spend at least $9 billion through 2033 to quadruple Japanese computing capacity to 1 gigawatt. Separately, Anthropic reported $16.8 billion in Q3 revenue, up 46% from $11.5 billion in Q2, and said it was profitable on an adjusted basis and cash flow positive during the quarter. Kroll Bond Rating Agency assigned Anthropic a BB+ issuer rating with a stable outlook in June, placing it one notch below investment grade. A $35 billion Apollo-led chip financing deal funds more than 1 gigawatt of compute, with Broadcom guaranteeing most of it and approximately $4.4 billion of junior debt riding directly on Anthropic's credit. As of late June, Anthropic carried zero debt on its own balance sheet, with borrowing held in partner entities and special purpose vehicles. Anthropic plans to spend more than $500 billion on computing and AI infrastructure over the next decade. Anthropic also signed a lease for a data center in Western Queensland, Australia, targeting 2.16 gigawatts of capacity potentially online in 2027, and confidentially filed for an IPO with the SEC in June.
