Meta Muse hits 10.2M U.S. downloads in 40 days, retention outpaces rivals
The download and retention figures place Muse among a small set of apps in terms of early growth pace. European regulators and U.S. lawmakers are scrutinizing Meta's AI data collection practices, and Muse could serve as a test case for regulatory action on AI agents.

Meta's Muse personal AI agent reached 10.2 million U.S. downloads within 40 days of its September 8, 2026 launch, a pace matched by only 11 other apps, most of which were mobile games. Daily active users hit 2.5 million on October 16, up 15% week-over-week, though DAUs remain under a quarter of total U.S. downloads. Seven-day retention stands at 30% and 14-day retention at 23%, versus rival averages of 19% and 16%. Muse is a task-executing agent, not a chatbot, connecting to email, calendar, payments, health, shopping, and smart home services across $20 and $100 subscription tiers. Meta uses a VM-based architecture that lets users watch the agent work. By September 30, Muse had reached approximately 5 million downloads and ranked first on free-app charts in both the U.S. and Canada. At META-Connect on September 23, Meta expanded Muse Connectors to include Walmart, Best Buy, Sephora, PayPal, Expedia, and GitHub, among others, and has since added Slack, Notion, Figma, Canva, and Zoom. Meta has shipped updates on a cadence of every six to nine days since launch, and plans to add an encrypted Muse mode by December 2026.
