Hugging Face's Microduck open-source robot

The gist

Microduck, Hugging Face's $399 open-source robot, now open for preorder

Microduck puts reinforcement-learning training tools in a sub-$400 consumer device, allowing owners to train new behaviors in simulation and deploy them to the physical robot. The low price point is noted as a potential factor in helping US robot makers compete with Chinese manufacturers who hold a cost advantage on larger humanoid robots.

The full picture

Hugging Face's Pollen Robotics subsidiary is taking preorders for Microduck, a $399 bipedal robot 9.8 inches (25 centimeters) tall that waddles, sits, kicks a ball, picks up objects with its articulated beak, self-rights after falls, and can roller-skate with an optional wheels accessory. First deliveries are targeted before Christmas 2026 in North America, Europe, and the UK. The robot ships with 7 pre-learned moves, and its SDK, simulator, and reinforcement-learning stack are already available; the full tested software workflow will release before robots ship. Hugging Face acquired Pollen Robotics, a French robotics company, in April 2025 as part of its LeRobot initiative; Microduck follows earlier products including the Reachy Mini consumer robot, the SO-101 robotic arm, and the HopeJR humanoid.
