Anthropic's Claude Code and Cowork updates

The gist

Anthropic updates Claude with Cowork, Concise mode, and enterprise data policy

Cowork and the browser integration extend Claude to autonomous web-based task completion. The enterprise data policy targets regulated industries where data custody restrictions have limited AI adoption.

The full picture

Anthropic has released a set of Claude updates across its product line. Claude Cowork, available on all paid plans on mobile and web, includes an integrated browser that opens in a side panel when a task involves a website; Claude can navigate pages, click elements, type, and fill forms while the user watches in real time. Memory is unified across chat and Cowork, with entries editable in Settings. Claude Code received a Concise output style that leads with the result and stays short by default, described by Boris Cherny as a quick band-aid while Anthropic develops a longer-term fix for output-quality complaints. Claude Code also received a /design command to integrate Claude Design workflows, and auto mode is now the default after Anthropic found it catches more harmful actions than manual review because users tend to auto-approve or ignore manual prompts. Anthropic also announced an enterprise policy allowing companies to use Claude Fable without Anthropic taking data custody for 30 days, provided the enterprise retains the data itself; the policy was built with over 100 regulated-industry customers including Salesforce.

How it developed
27 August 2026

Anthropic on August 26 added a built-in browser to Cowork, its agentic task product, that opens automatically in the side panel when a task involves a website, letting Claude navigate pages, fill forms, and complete web-based jobs end-to-end.

Cowork is available on all paid plans on mobile and web.

26 August 2026

Anthropic on August 25 added a unified memory layer spanning Claude chat and Claude Cowork, so context from prior chat sessions, including project details, manager preferences, or client history, carries into Cowork tasks without users re-supplying it.

Users control what is stored.

22 August 2026

Anthropic on August 21 shipped a Concise output style for Claude Code, a /design command, and auto mode as the new default, and released Claude Cowork to all paid plans.

The Concise style leads with results by default, addressing user verbosity complaints; developer Boris Cherny called it "a quick band-aid" while Anthropic works on a longer-term fix. Auto mode became the default on the grounds that users tend to auto-approve manual review prompts, making auto mode catch more harmful actions.
