Anthropic Expands GSA Deal to All US Government Tiers at 40% Off

The gist

The agreement broadens subsidized AI access from federal agencies to all levels of US government. The no-minimum-spend structure means smaller state and local entities can participate without committing to fixed costs.

The full picture

Anthropic and the General Services Administration have established a OneGov agreement giving federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial governments a 40% discount on Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government, and the Claude API, with no minimum spend commitment. The deal replaces a $1-per-user federal offer expiring October 31, 2026, and extends coverage to state, local, tribal, and territorial governments that the previous federal-only arrangement excluded. Approximately 500 US government organizations currently use Claude; weekly Claude for Government active users are up roughly eightfold since February and federal civilian agency usage is up about 20-fold in a year. Claude for Government achieved FedRAMP High authorization on September 30, and Claude is available at FedRAMP High through Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud Vertex AI as well. Anthropic projects $1 billion in savings under the agreement. Agencies have used Claude for tasks including responding to a ransomware attack in 8 minutes versus the usual 2-3 days and migrating nearly 900 API methods in two days instead of a projected month.
