Anthropic Embeds Claude in Drug Programs at Six Pharma Partners
Anthropic is moving beyond providing AI tools to running its own drug discovery programs, with a stated timeline for human clinical trials as soon as late 2028. The early results with partners point to measurable reductions in time and labor for specific tasks in drug development.
The full picture
Anthropic has partnered with six pharmaceutical and biotech organizations, including BigHat Biosciences, Bristol Myers Squibb, Divergence Labs, Enveda, Generate Biomedicines, and The Column Group, to embed Claude across stages of drug development. Early reported results include Claude generating roughly 35,000 antibody designs in about a month for Divergence Labs' food allergy program, with candidate molecules that outperformed a standard medication. For Enveda, Claude's review of manufacturing documentation reduced human review time by 89% and caught seven issues human reviewers had missed. Claude also coordinated 11 outside laboratories on behalf of a one-person biotech company. Separately, Anthropic acquired Mithril Medicine and expects a muscular dystrophy drug candidate to be ready to enter human clinical trials as soon as late 2028. Anthropic has also launched Claude Science, a Life Sciences Verification Program, and an open call for guest investigators to broaden researcher access.
