Anthropic Donates Agent Skills Standard to Agentic AI Foundation
The transfer moves a widely adopted agent interoperability standard out of single-vendor control into a multi-stakeholder foundation. The AAIF already governs MCP, making it the central body for two significant AI agent standards.

Anthropic is transferring the Agent Skills open standard to the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), a body co-founded by Anthropic, Block, and OpenAI under the Linux Foundation. The move gives the standard neutral, community-driven governance. Agent Skills, published as an open standard in December 2025, defines how AI agents acquire specialized knowledge and workflows. It has been integrated by over 70 agent platforms including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and VS Code, with one million skills published and nearly 280 million installed since launch. Anthropic is donating the Agent Skills name, logo, GitHub organization, and agentskills.io domain to the AAIF. David Soria Parra and Mahesh Murag will serve as Lead Maintainers, with engineers from Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and others maintaining the standard. The AAIF previously received the Model Context Protocol from Anthropic.
